How to Choose Quality Kids' Clothes: What We Look For at Wild Posse
Kids' clothes have a pretty big job to do.
They’re worn to daycare, school, the beach, the farm, birthday parties and everywhere in between. They get covered in food, grass, dirt and who knows what else, then they’re thrown in the wash and asked to do it all again.
So when we’re choosing what to bring into Wild Posse, we look beyond whether something looks cute on the hanger.
We want to know: Will it actually work for kids and families?
Here are some of the things we look for when choosing the brands and pieces that make their way into the shop.
The fabric matters
One of the first things we look at is the fabric.
Kids need clothes that feel good against their skin and are comfortable enough to play in. We look for fabrics that are soft, practical and suited to the Australian lifestyle.
Natural fibres, beautiful cottons, soft knits and fabrics that become even better with wear are some of our favourites.
We also think about where the clothes will actually be worn. A beautiful piece might look lovely, but if it’s uncomfortable, too restrictive or not practical for everyday life, it probably won’t get much wear.
Comfort comes first
If you’ve ever tried to convince a toddler to wear something they don’t like, you’ll understand this one!
We love clothes that let kids move, run, climb, play and just be kids.
Good kids’ clothing shouldn’t get in the way of that.
We look at things like waistbands, buttons, zips, seams and the overall fit. Those little details can make a big difference when something is being worn all day.
We think about how it will actually be worn
When we’re buying, we don’t just think about one outfit.
We think about how many different ways a piece can be worn.
Can that tee be worn with shorts in summer and layered under a jacket when it gets cooler? Can those pants be dressed up with a knit or worn with a simple tee for a day of playing?
The more ways a piece can be worn, the more value it can offer a family.
We look for pieces that can handle real life
Kids are messy. That’s just part of the fun.
We know parents don’t want clothes that need to be treated like they’re made of glass.
We’re drawn to brands that create clothing for real children and real families. Pieces that can be worn, washed, played in and loved.
We’re not expecting everything to look brand new forever. Kids’ clothes are meant to be lived in.
But we do want you to feel like you’re getting good quality for what you’ve spent.
It’s the little details
Sometimes quality is in the things you don’t immediately notice.
The stitching. The weight of the fabric. The finishing. The buttons and zips. The way something sits and moves.
When we’re looking through collections, we pay attention to those little details because they’re often what makes a piece feel special, and what helps it stand up to being worn again and again.
We consider the value, not just the price
We know families have different budgets, and we always try to offer a range of price points at Wild Posse.
But when we’re choosing what to stock, we’re also thinking about value.
A cheaper item isn’t necessarily better value if it loses its shape after a few washes or only gets worn a handful of times.
Sometimes spending a little more on a well-made piece that gets worn constantly can make much more sense in the long run.
We want our customers to feel good about what they’ve bought, not just when they leave the shop, but months later when that favourite piece is still getting plenty of wear.
We have to love it too
This one might sound obvious, but it’s important to us.
If we wouldn’t choose it for our own families, we’re probably not going to bring it into Wild Posse.
We’re always looking at new brands, new collections and new pieces, and there’s a lot out there to choose from.
So we ask ourselves whether something feels like Wild Posse.
Is it something our customers will love? Is it practical? Is it well made? Does it offer something a little different? Would we be excited to see it arrive in the shop?
If the answer is yes, then we’re onto something.
Quality doesn’t have to mean perfect
We don’t believe kids’ clothing needs to be precious.
In fact, some of our favourite pieces are the ones that become well-loved favourites. The jumper with the little mark from an adventure, the pants that have been worn a hundred times or the tee that seems to spend more time in the wash than the wardrobe.
That’s real life.
For us, quality means choosing pieces that are made to be worn and enjoyed, not just looked at.
Why this matters to us
At Wild Posse, we’re lucky enough to choose the brands and products we bring into our shop.
We don’t take that responsibility lightly.
Every collection we look at has to fit with what we believe our customers want: beautiful clothing, good quality, practical pieces and things that feel worth bringing home.
We’re always looking for those pieces that make you think, “Yep, my kids are going to live in this.”
Because that’s what we want from the clothes we stock.
Less about having a wardrobe full of clothes, and more about having a wardrobe full of pieces your kids actually love wearing.
And if we’ve done our job right, you’ll find a few of those pieces at Wild Posse. 🤎
