A Local's Guide to Spring in Esperance with Kids
There is something pretty special about spring in Esperance.
The days start getting longer, the sun starts showing up a little more and after what can feel like a very long winter, everyone seems ready to get outside again.
For us, spring means more afternoons outside, getting the kids out after school and making the most of those beautiful Esperance days when the weather is just right.
So we thought we'd put together a little local guide to some of our favourite ways to enjoy spring with the kids.
Head to the beach
This one probably goes without saying when you live in Esperance!
Spring is such a beautiful time to get down to the beach. It isn't always warm enough for a full day of swimming, but that's not really the point.
Pack a picnic, take the kids for a wander, build sandcastles, look for shells or just let them run around.
Some of the best family days don't need much planning at all.
Get the bikes out at Lalor Park
With the weather starting to warm up, it's a great time to get the bikes and scooters out.
Lalor Park is a good spot to let the kids burn off some energy on the bike track while you enjoy being outside too.
It's one of those easy activities that doesn't need much organising. Grab the bikes, pack some water and you're good to go.
Head to Gibson Park
For the kids who love getting around on wheels, Gibson Park has the skate park and is another great spot to spend an afternoon.
It's perfect for getting outside, meeting up with friends and letting the kids do their thing.
And with the days getting longer, there's no need to rush home as soon as school finishes.
Take a ride on the mini train
The mini train is another lovely way to spend some time with the kids when you're out and about in Esperance.
It is simple, afforedable, fun and exciting for little ones, especially those who love trains and anything that goes around and around. It is also a great option when you want to do something easy without planning a whole day of activities.
Take a ride, enjoy being outside and let the kids soak up the excitement. Sometimes the simplest outings are the ones they remember most.
A game of mini golf
If you've got kids who love a bit of friendly competition, mini golf is always a fun option.
And the bonus for families with younger kids is that the mini golf has an indoor play area too.
So the bigger kids can have a go at the course while the little ones have somewhere to play. Everyone gets to join in, which is always a win.
Catch a movie at Fenwick Cinemas
Sometimes you just need an easy afternoon.
A trip to Fenwick Cinemas, some popcorn and a movie is a pretty good way to spend a few hours, especially if the weather decides to turn.
Spring can still bring the odd rainy or windy day in Esperance, so it's handy having a few indoor options up your sleeve.
Wander through the Sunday markets at Museum Village
If you're looking for something a little slower paced, the Sunday markets at Museum Village are a lovely way to spend a morning.
Have a wander around the stalls, grab something to eat, let the kids have a look around and catch up with familiar faces.
It's one of those simple local outings that feels like part of what makes Esperance such a great place to live.
Get outside after school
As the evenings get lighter, there's so much more time to get outside after school.
Go for a bike ride, head to the park, kick a footy around or simply let the kids play outside until dinner time.
After spending so much of winter inside, it's nice to have those longer afternoons back.
Make the most of the warmer days
Spring in Esperance can be a little unpredictable.
One day you're reaching for a jumper and the next you're wondering where the summer clothes have gone!
We love making the most of those warmer days when they pop up. A trip to the beach, an afternoon outside or even dinner eaten outdoors can make an ordinary day feel a little bit special.
And don't forget the sunscreen and hats. The warmer weather might be creeping in, but those spring days can still catch you out.
You don't need a big plan
That's probably our biggest tip.
You don't need to spend a fortune or organise a whole day of activities to keep the kids entertained.
Sometimes it's a bike ride after school, a trip to the beach, an hour at the skate park or a quick game of mini golf.
Esperance gives us so many opportunities to get outside and enjoy where we live. Sometimes we just need to make the most of them.
And if you're heading into town...
If you're already out and about, come and say hi.
We're right here in Esperance and love seeing familiar faces come through the door, as well as meeting new ones.
Whether you're looking for a new outfit for the kids, a hat for those sunnier days, a drink bottle for school or just want to have a browse, you're always welcome at Wild Posse.
And if you're not local, you can always follow along with us online. We love sharing a little bit of what's happening in our corner of the world and connecting with families from all over Australia.
Here's to spring
Spring doesn't need to be complicated.
It's longer days, warmer afternoons, sandy feet, bikes, skate parks, markets, movies and kids playing outside until it's time to head home.
It's making the most of the beautiful place we get to call home and enjoying the little things with our families.
So here's to getting outside a little more, saying yes to the spontaneous beach trip, grabbing an ice cream, heading to the markets or squeezing in a game of mini golf.
We might be a little biased, but we think spring is a pretty lovely time to be raising kids in Esperance. 🤎
